MAJ Stephen C. Reich - May 22, 1971 - June 28, 200534, of Washington Depot, Conn.; assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), Hunter Army Airfield, Ga.; killed June 28 when an MH-47 Chinook helicopter crashed while ferrying personnel to a battle against militants in eastern Afghanistan.
I didn't personally know MAJ Reich at all. He grew up in a town close to mine and every spring he struck me out playing baseball on a regular basis. I would never have admitted to it at the time, but I considered it a 'success' when I grounded out against him.
