We might as well have been born 80 years ago

Cuz as kids we probably had more in common with grade school kids during the 30's than the current pupils have with us.
Steve Hodson, who grew up in Aurora, and now lives in Texas, commented on the digital age, which is perhaps the most dramatic change that’s occurred since Gen Xers were in school.

“There were no cell phones then,” he said. “Now there’s texting that can result in cheating, and subversive communication during class.”

Not to mention, back then we had to beg the school secretary to let us use the phone to call mom for a ride home.

I never told my kids, "We had to walk ten miles in the snow to school" because it was really only two miles. I told them, "Girls had to wear dresses - all of the time! Walking up the stairs was a bitch trying to hold your books and keep the guys at the bottom of the stairs from looking up your dress."

BB- did any of the boys try the ole 'mirror taped to their shoe' trick?

With dresses so short (back in the day) they did not need mirrors. Then long about my sophomore year in HS, we were allowed to wear jeans - and we did.

this is so true - the older i get, the deeper into the generational research - i miss my father so much. he was a silent. my sibs - boomers. i think this explains some of the differences in our relationships with him.

he talked so often about the depression growing up - i always distrusted stock-market investments and was very conservative over the years despite what the boomers told me.

check out dave's blog - he turned up this awful Web site - WHy I hate GEn X.
